Bye Bye Pleasure Island

Disneys Pleasure Island is scheduled to close down on September 27th, 2008. The attraction has been open for almost 20 years now and the six clubs (Adventurers Club, BET SoundStage Club, Comedy Warehouse, 8 Trax, Mannequins Dance Palace, and Motion) have been blamed for the downturn in Orlando's Downtown nightlife.

Disney intends to revamp the acreage with more shopping boutiques and restaurants.

Making A Scene

Jerry has helped us prove our point about the "Make A Scene" post from yesterday. Here's Downtown Jacksonville's own "knot-head" (Stewart Irving) advertising for the event.....

And here's some video of Mr. Irving outside of 11 East Forsyth....

Is this the kind of person you want to "Make A Scene" with Downtown? We think KNOT!

Flaming!

It's almost the weekend and we're sure everyone is counting down til Happy Hour. We just wanted to post a little Public Service Announcement(PSA).

If you are out drinking this weekend and someone hands you a "flaming shot", DO NOT DO THIS.....

Thank you and enjoy your weekend!

On The Move - Update

Man, we love you guys....we posted this blog yesterday about a home being moved down Stockton Street and we wanted to know where it was headed to. Well, loyal reader BikeJax was quick with an answer.

"It was donated to RADO by Miller Electric and was being moved to (I think) somewhere on the Green St. West of West St."
Great info and we're glad to see that they didn't decide to demolish the structure. Finally Miller Electric is doing something right. In case you guys didn't know, they were in a battle with local residents regarding the closing down of Roselle Street on the East side of Stockton Street next to I-10 to acommodate for their business office; they didn't want people driving down that road....and it looks like that aint happenin'!

How Gay!

Weeks ago, we heard rumors that the Metro at Willowbranch Avenue and College Street was closed by the City for building code infractions (none of those rumors were ever confirmed), after a brief hiatus the club re-opened several weeks ago following "renovations".

Now they have announced that there will be a Tiki Bar Grand Opening celebration on the 4th of July. Check out the promo video below for more info and gayness.

FREE MUSIC - Urban Jacksonville Mixtape #6

Nothing like FREE MUSIC, especially when its good. Urban Jacksonville Mixtape#6 is now available over at Urban Jacksonville as a free download. We've added this one to our collection and its playing over the Jacksonville Confidential PA now.

The Faggot Family

So, apparently there's this dish in the UK called Faggot(s). If you haven't heard of them, here's how they are described on Wikipedia -

"A faggot is a kind of meatball, a traditional dish in the UK, especially the southwest of England and Wales. It is made from meat off-cuts and offal, especially pork. A faggot is traditionally made from pig heart, liver and fatty belly meat or bacon minced together, with herbs added for flavouring and sometimes breadcrumbs. The mixture is shaped in the hand into balls, wrapped round with caul (a membrane from the pig's abdomen), and baked."

*Offal is basically chitlin's, the "entrails" if you will. HOAT.

Anyway, a family in the UK has been named The Faggot Family according to this article from the BBC. Here's an excerpt just to spark your interest...

"The Doody family from Wolverhampton has been crowned The Faggot Family in a national competition, and to kick off their reign they will launch National Faggot Week."
The Doody family is now the Faggot family. Wow we don't know which one's worse. The full article is well worth a read. Trust us.

Scultpure; Derivatives - Tour

The National Sculpture Exhibition Sculptures;Derivatives just ended its showing at UNF on June 25th, but we've got a quick tour that was posted by the UNF Gallery for those of you who weren't able to attend the event.

Yum, Pine Cone Cake.

WTF

WTF? Is it a Panda? A Dog? Those crazy Asians. Looks like the Japanese have created a new fad; changing an ordinary dog into a "Panda Dog" with just a touch of dye.

Or how about your very own Tigger?

On The Move

Joe(y) spotted a house on the move at Stockton and College Streets today. See if you recognize the structure, it used to be located on Roselle Street at the I-10 East on-ramp at Stockton. We would love to know where it was being relocated to....

Clarification

We've received a few e-mails from people asking for a little clarification about the CONTEST we are conducting.

Its seems people think that we are expecting you guys to write an essay about why you deserve a dozen of the most delicious cupcakes every created. What we are actually looking for is just a nice short (a few sentences....a paragraph) explanation of why you should win the pastries from Let Them Eat Cake!.

We specified 250 words or less because we didn't want to receive long, drawn-out, books of explanations. So just pound out a few succinct sentences and send them on, the competition is getting fierce!

Beer Festival

Tomorrow night, June 27th, from 6PM - 10PM trek out to the Morocco Shrine Auditorium (on St. Johns Bluff near UNF) for the 15th Annual Beer Festival presented by Folio Weekly and Planet Radio.

Admission is $30, which seems a bit steep but it is all you can drink, and the event is (of course) for those of you who are 21 years of age and up. We also hear that the Jacksonville Rollergirls will be in attendance, so be sure to be on the lookout.

Amy G and Her Kazoo

WOW! The people in Australia really have talent! Check out this video of Amy G and Her Kazoo that Kate sent over. Amy G is definitely invited to all Jacksonville Confidential events from now on.

Just watch it.....

Editorial

This is Jason - The Editor speaking and I want to know who in the EFF posted this "Missed Connections" ad on both Craigs List and in this weeks Folio Weekly. At least I got Ad of the Week!!!!

Im pretty sure I know who the culprit is thanks to some investigative journalism by our News Room Chief - Mark. See below....

Make A Scene

Last month we told you guys about the Water Street Garage Party not realizing that this is an ongoing event put on by the City of Jacksonville called "Make A Scene". There is an article today at First Coast News that explains the concept for the weekly party....

"Jacksonville city leaders want Downtown to be one of the hot spots in town. There is a free party every Thursday from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. It's called Make a Scene Downtown!

The party is held at various locations. It will be at Hemming Plaza tonight. This is the last Thursday it will be at this location. Then, the party will be on the move. Theresa O'Donnell, Director of Special Events for the city, says the goal is to "affect different segments of Downtown." Various businesses get involved in the party."

Click Here for the full story.

This is all good IN THEORY, but lets look at the facts. First, why Thursday? is there so much going on during the weekends that this cant be a free Friday night gig? As you can see from our previous post on the event, the Water Street Garage Party was pretty much a bust (can you say "electric slide"?). Granted, that was the first and maiden voyage of "Make A Scene" but it didn't foreshadow a real happenin' event. Also, we're not so sure that a "party" put together by Theresa O'Donnell is our cup of tea. Look at her...pretty much explains the electric slide.

"Party Animal" Theresa O'Donnell

If any of you guys have attended this event recently and have more positive things to say about it, please let us know. We aren't trying to sabotage "Make A Scene" or anything like that, we just want the City to realize that just because you throw a "free party" doesn't mean its a good thing and also doesn't mean that it's going to attract the kind of attendees that will actually "Make A Scene" (or at least a good scene).

13 Gypsies Peasant Kitchen

Here's your first look at a new eatery opening up in Riverside soon. 13 Gypsies Peasant Kitchen is located at the corner of Stockton and College Streets next to Compound Graphics (formerly Fierce Graphics, Inc.). They've posted their menus in the window and Joe(y) nabbed a few pics for us. He also said that he thinks they will be opening next week.

The menu items and prices look pretty darn sweet, we will try to have a review of some sort for you guys as soon as we can. In the meantime, check out the menu...

Staff Meeting Tonight

Gay Adoption on 30 Days

Have you guys ever watched 30 Days on FX with Morgan Spurlock (The Super Size Me guy)? If not, you may want to check it out. Basically, Morgan has people live for 30 days in an environment totally different to their own.

Last night's episode featured a Mormon woman, who is opposed to homosexuality and gay adoptions, living with a gay couple who have adopted children. As you can imagine, the conflicting views didn't go over to well with either party and much like God Warrior there is no changing the Mormon lady's (narrow)mind.

Check out these clips from last nights show.

If you want to watch episodes of 30 Days Click Here to watch them thanks to Hulu.

Ew

Do you guys even recognize Matt Damon below? He's looking quit chester-the-molester'ish. Fortunately he's looking like this for a part in the movie The Informant. Do you think Sarah Silverman is still Effing Him?

Optimus Prime Convention Center

For years and years the City of Jacksonville has been trying to figure out how to make people come to the Prime Osborne Convention Center Downtown and how to make the venue a "happening place".

We have a fantastic idea how we can achieve that and it's really quite easy. A simple name change and statue erection (hehe). We would like to show you our plan for the OPTIMUS PRIME CONVENTION CENTER.

Looks great doesn't it? And now would be the perfect time to make the change with the enormous success of the Transformers movie and the upcoming sequel.

Cube Craft

Cube Craft is a neat crafts site that offers build your own "toys" with such notable characters as Indiana Jones, Batman, Hellboy, Kermit the Frog, a Stormtrooper, and many many more.

We attempted to make a Bender from Futurama and it didn't turn out so well. These things are much harder than they seem. Click Here to get your own Cube Craft and check out our handy work below.

Reverse Graffiti

What a splendid idea. The Reverse Graffiti Project. First of all...what is Reverse Graffiti. From Wikipedia -

"also known as clean tagging, dust tagging or grime writing, Reverse Graffiti is a method of creating graffiti on walls or other surfaces by removing dirt from a surface. It is usually done by removing dirt/dust with the fingertip(s) from windows or other dirty surfaces. Reverse graffiti on windows/glass can be highly visible due to the reflection of sunlight. Due to the lack of paint it is often considered legal and used for Advertising, with companies such as Microsoft and Smirnoff, have had their products advertised this way."

In April of this year, San Francisco's Broadway Tunnel got the reverse graffiti treatment thanks to Paul Curtis and Green Works cleaner. Check out this video of the event.

Espeto - Endless Summer Trio Menu

The people over at Espeto Brazilian Steakhouse have developed a fantastic new "summer menu" for those trying to watch their weight.

The gist -

Espeto’s Endless Summer Trio Menu for only $28!
You can eat all you want from these 3 kinds of protein:
  • The signature cut, Picanha (Top sirloin)
  • Chicken wrapped in Bacon
  • Parmesan Pork Loin
Included, of course, is Espeto’s Salad Bar and its wonderful and crispy vegetables and hot dishes to compliment a balanced meal
Trust us when we say that this is a FANTASTIC deal. The only drawback is that you don't get to have the most awesome thing on their menu, the Beef Rib, but hey! its only $28 for all you can eat meat.

In addition to the "slimmed down" menu there are also a few summer additions such as the Brazilian Biquini Martini made with Açaí Berry Vodka to start your meal off and the Açaí Berry Parfait for dessert. YUM!

Thanks for the heads up Joe(y).

BREAKING NEWS......

Joe(y) just called us after being run off the road into the median on Old St. Augustine Road at Emerson Street with reports of a high speed chase involving a big blue pick-up truck being driven by an older white fellow with gray hair and beard and a slew of JSO officers in pursuit behind him. Here's the best pic we could get.

What you are seeing is a JSO Officer retrieving stop-sticks from in front of the Jenkins Barbecue at the corner of Old St. Augustine Road and Emerson Streets. The blue pick-up truck pictured IS NOT the perp.

*UPDATE*

According to Jacksonville.com....

"At least one person has been reported shot after police chased a blue truck following a robbery this morning at a Jacksonville bank on the Southside.

The police chase began shortly after 10 a.m., with an officer reporting he was following a vehicle traveling on St. Augustine Road at high speeds. Police stop sticks were laid, flattening the truck’s two left tires. The vehicle, which has a Georgia license plate, is stopped in the middle of the street in the 3400 block of St. Augustine Road.

A rescue unit was called moments later for a shooting victim. The unit was seen driving from the area of St. Augustine Road and St. Augustine Road East, where police have now put up crime scene tape, blocking the roadway.

The bank robbed was the Fifth Third Bank in the 6400 block of St. Augustine Road. Police crime scene tape is also up around the bank.

Money was reported coming from the vehicle as it was being chased from the area of the bank."

Many thanks to Brandon for the additional follow-up information.

Happy Birthday Cyndi Lauper

Happy 55th Birthday to Cyndi Lauper. Check out her brand new single "Into The Night Life", pretty good for an old broad!

YouTube isn't allowing embedding of the "official" music video anymore, so we've posted one created by a fan. If you want to see the "official" music video for "Into The Night" then CLICK HERE!

Welcome To Jacksonville

Our very own local retard, AKA Chris Jones, CEO and Founder of Inspirational Experiences Ministry, is back after a rather lengthy hiatus. We're not quite sure we missed him after watching this completely boring, and confusing, "Devotional/Tutorial" providing instructions on how to edit out "bad words" in your music.

As you can imagine, Chris isn't really the best teacher. Besides, who in the hell wants to pay for music on iTunes and then edit out the profanity and shorten the music so it can be JUST LIKE on the radio anyway? Well, apparently Christians. We weren't aware of how vulgar Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith could be.

La Pequeña as Marisela Santibañez

Yes, we're addicted to La Pequena and we know you guys are too. Here "it" is as Spanish actress Marisela Santibañez (whoever the eff that is, all google results were in Spanish, go figure!) dancing about to Toni Basils "Mickey".

Such a guilty pleasure.

Bearforce1 - Shake That Thing

Oh geez! The bears are back, Bearforce1 that is, with a new song ("Shake That Thing") and it's equally as bad as the first.

So much hair and gayness...

CONTEST!

Dont forget, tomorrow we will be posting our very first contest and your chance to win a dozen of the best cupcakes in town from Let Them Eat Cake!.

Send us an email with your response to the question we will post tomorrow before 2PM on Wednesday, July 2nd, and we will post the winner on Friday, July 4th. You can then arrange to pic your cupcakes up from Anita at Let Them Eat Cake! the next week!

Poor Laquida Patterson (we're not sure thats the correct spelling). She was putting on her fairly new thong from Victoria's Secret when "the metal popped into [her] eye". She suffered three cuts to her cornea and is now suing the undergarment manufacturer. Next time Laquida...try a pair of granny panties, no metal!

Staff Meeting Pics

We had a superb time at Moon River Pizza last night and want to thank Dan and the rest of the crew for taking excellent care of us. We also got some work done; more specifically, we discussed the rules and regulations for Mondays contest and will post those before the weekend.

Robin snapped some great pics of all of the delicious pizza, salads, and calzones as well as the artwork, staff, and our special guest (who we had way too much fun with) Betsy. After looking at the pics, can you believe Betsy is 51 years old? She looks great.

Enjoy....
