Last month we told you guys about the Water Street Garage Party not realizing that this is an ongoing event put on by the City of Jacksonville called "Make A Scene". There is an article today at First Coast News that explains the concept for the weekly party...."Jacksonville city leaders want Downtown to be one of the hot spots in town. There is a free party every Thursday from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. It's called Make a Scene Downtown! The party is held at various locations. It will be at Hemming Plaza tonight. This is the last Thursday it will be at this location. Then, the party will be on the move. Theresa O'Donnell, Director of Special Events for the city, says the goal is to "affect different segments of Downtown." Various businesses get involved in the party."

This is all good IN THEORY, but lets look at the facts. First, why Thursday? is there so much going on during the weekends that this cant be a free Friday night gig? As you can see from our previous post on the event, the Water Street Garage Party was pretty much a bust (can you say "electric slide"?). Granted, that was the first and maiden voyage of "Make A Scene" but it didn't foreshadow a real happenin' event. Also, we're not so sure that a "party" put together by Theresa O'Donnell is our cup of tea. Look at her...pretty much explains the electric slide.

If any of you guys have attended this event recently and have more positive things to say about it, please let us know. We aren't trying to sabotage "Make A Scene" or anything like that, we just want the City to realize that just because you throw a "free party" doesn't mean its a good thing and also doesn't mean that it's going to attract the kind of attendees that will actually "Make A Scene" (or at least a good scene).
