SOLD

Joe(y) just heard from a pretty reliable source that John Gorrie Jr. High (2525 College Street) at the corner of Stockton and College Streets has officially SOLD and will be converted into condos. For many years this building has sat virtually empty and in the past few years has served as the Teacher Depot for the Duval County School Board.

Find out tonight at 6PM when the School Board meets to find out if the sale goes through. Three bids have been placed, all below appraisal value.

The sale of John Gorrie Jr. High will be just the beginning of an area wide restructuring that will include newly paved streets, enhanced brick crosswalks, and better lighting. For more information on the proposed upgrades check out the COJ Planning and Development Website which has links to 3 PDF's outlining the Stockton Street Vision Plan.

All I can say is YAY! I have been hoping they would do something residential with the school for years. I am very excited about the proposed improvements to Stockton Street because it is one of the main arteries into Riverside and it needs to be more in tune with the area. I live on Ernest Street and it will be so nice to have the upgrades. My fingers are crossed!!
Thanks for the report!
