Friday Crafts

Here's a great way to prank your co-workers today. Watch this super short instructional video on how to make your own fake poop. It's super easy and there are oh so many uses for it. C'mon, we know you guys aren't really working, it's Friday....

Milk Finally Reaches Jacksonville

Oscar-nominated, gay-rights film Milk has finally made it to Jacksonville and Jason just got done watching his advanced copy from the academy. All he could say was, "SIMPLY EXCELLENT!!! GO SEE IT!" Click Here for show times in our area and Click Here for a pretty good review from Jacksonville.com.

1171 - Update

Thanks to fellow blogger Nourish The Beast we have learned that one of our most favorite restaurants in Jacksonville, 1171, has scaled down its hours to cut out lunch service. Certainly a sign of the times, but at least they are still open for dinner. Trust us....pop in sometime for a fabulous dining experience.

Thanks for the heads up Alex.

Reni's Redneck Yacht Club

Listen up people! If you're ever out near Yulee, Florida or on the way to Fernandina on US-17, you might want to stop in to the quaintest little bar in the neighborhood. Reni's Redneck Yacht Club. Click on the link to take a look at their website, it has pictures and everything.

Spotted

Last night Emily and Mikey spotted Jacksonville's very own Sasquatch, Shirley Green, in the parking lot of the gay Publix (in Riverside). She had her fashionable red clutch in her hand and Emily was brazen enough to request a picture with her, which she obliged. Check it!

Chaka Khan Arrested in Jacksonville

THIS JUST IN! We were just doing our weekly jail sweep to see if we recognize the names of any Duval County Jail inmates who are currently incarcerated and we found one. Rarely do any pop out, but today we discovered that legendary R&B artist Chaka Khan is currently being held (since October of last year) by the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office for battery upon a person over 65 years of age, burglary, DUI, expired drivers license, and a few other charges. Chaka is one bad mama-jama as you can see from the video of a live performance of I Feel For You by a ChakaKhan shown below.

Click Here for the JSO site.

Gay

The video below just might be the absolute gayest thing we have ever seen a Marine do. Check out these stir-crazy military guys as they perform the Cha-Cha Slide as gayly as possible. You go girls!

Monday Dearest

There's a new party every Monday at Eclipse beginning this coming Monday, February 2nd, and we think it's going to be a blast. According to the event organizer, Hampton, Monday nights are going to be geared toward boys and men who are a little light in their loafers, if you know what we mean. Everyone is welcome of course, but to really turn it out, bring your best gay pal.

Lost - Sneak Peak

The best show on TV, Lost, comes on tonight and after last weeks awesome 2-hour season premier we are anxiously waiting for the continuance this evening. In the interim, check out his sneak peak of tonight's episode. Oh the anticipation....

Holy Sh*t

The news room is all aflutter with the recent announcement that ABC has green-lit production on a remake of the 1980s mini-series about invading alien lizards who wear human skin as disguises, called "V". Our Editor and News Room Chief are especially excited and are currently discussing a "V" viewing party of the original series and movie. Jason (The Editor) has all of them on DVD. What a freaking NERD!

Welcome to Jacksonville - American Idol Edition

Who saw last nights American Idol? The majority of you we suspect because it was from right here in the River City, Jacksonville. We watched and, unfortunately, we didn't see any of the peeps that we Spotted at American Idol auditions back in August or any of the People We Liked from those auditions. We did, however, spot a close friend of Jacksonville Confidential, Cynthia Nixons girlfriend, and George Ramirez (of Night of the Living Dead fame?). Check it out.....

AJ Neaher is a personal friend of several Jacksonville Confidential staff members and is also the Chorus Director for Lee High School in Riverside. He's got a great voice and we were sad to not see him walk out with a golden ticket.

We also saw Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixons girlfriend Christine Marinoni....

And finally none-other-than the master of horror, George Ramirez. At least that's what this guy "said" his name was. We think he was a total ringer.....

It was great to see Jacksonville on the small screen for a national event like American Idol, but honestly some of the people out there representing our fine City should have just stayed at home.

Gay

This for all of our non-gay readers. Check out The Gay Alphabet and learn to speak like your floppy wristed friends. According to thegayalphabet.com -

Right wing groups and the church argue that the very existence of gay publications and groups effectively advertise, glamorize and recruit people into the gay lifestyle. They see it as 'recruitment propaganda'. Which is of course rubbish. This is an art project that explores what a recruitment campaign might look like...
And here we go....

I Love Money 2

No surprise here, VH1 is bringing back I Love Money for a second season and some of our favorite peeps are back from Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, and I Love New York. Buckwild, Saaphyri, Tailor Made, and 16 others compete for a quarter of a million dollars. These shows are just some of our guilty pleasures. Here is an extended intro to the new season that starts this coming Monday, February 2nd, at 9PM....

Caylee Doll

You guys all know the story of poor little Caylee Anthony who went missing in Orlando a few months back and was later found, dead, in a wooded area close to her home and who's mother is currently charged with first degree murder, right? Well, a local company called Showbiz Productions was planning on selling a Caylee Sunshine Doll to raise awareness and money for missing and/or exploited children starting today, Tuesday, January 27th. Well, the general populous was pretty much outraged by the announcement of the doll and have essentially halted its distribution.

Click Here for the full story from News4Jax.

Banned

There's one Super Bowl commercial that you wont be seeing on Sunday during Super Bowl 43 between the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. This one from animal rights group PETA that has been banned from US viewership for being too lewd and suggestive. We proudly present "Veggie Love".

Fishing with Kittens

A reader of ours sent us over a link to a local website called Save Our Cats From Fisherman, which is trying to do just that. According to the site -

The Human Society of America has announced overcrowding in their shelters by cats and kittens as a result of global warming. Earth's warming temperatures haved caused longer and more frequent breeding seasons. Now, it's been said, rich, arrogant traveling anglers are taking advantage of this surplus by using these helpless animals as live bait for sharks, blue marlin and tarpon. These sick individuals are abusing cats and kittens for their own twisted amusement and calling it "sport". We hope to create awareness of this horrible act and save cats' and kittens' lives by doing so.

There is a terribly disturbing video on the website showing this atrocity happening and, truthfully, we were dumbfounded and looked on in disbelief. If you think your stomach can handle it, watch the video. If you are as disgusted as we are, help the cause and donate.

The Bungalow on Park - Open but CLOSED on Mondays

Admittedly, we have been putting off this post for quite some time while we got confirmation on whether or not The Bungalow on Park has, in fact, re-opened or if the owners were trying to pull a fast one on us by creating a facade that they were open, as they seemed to do over the end-of-the-year holidays. Well, from the horses mouth, Clayton Allport, we have learned that the recipient of our Restaurant with the Most Negative Comments EVER award has officially re-opened for the new year. Don't try to have lunch or dinner there today though, they are CLOSED on Mondays.

Fabulous picture by D. Frederick and submitted by an Anonymous reader.

Obama Heroin

Even more change from around the globe since President Obamas inauguration last week. Authorities in New York City have seized a shipment of heroin from dealers with the name OBAMA stamped on the outside of it. Take a look.

Happy Birthday

Happy 51st Birthday to funny-woman and talk show host Ellen Degeneres. We hope that our most favorite lesbian of all time has a fantastic day today.

Stop the Insanity

No, this post isn't about fitness/motivational speaking nut Susan Powter, but rather a nut of a different flavor...religious nut Mark Fox. Check him out here as he sings a duet with himself (Lil Markie). We need to thank our very own Lil Markie for sending this over to us. Stop the Insanity!

5 Points Theatre Presents - Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire starts this Friday at the 5 Points Theatre and runs until February 5th. Shows are every day at 7 pm and 9:30 pm, with 4:45 pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday. The theatre will be offering curried chicken and vegetarian pastries from the Cozy Tea House across the street in 5 Points, and Jack is trying to line up some Kingfisher beer as well.

Here's a brief synopsis of Slumdog Millionaire from IMDB -

Slumdog Millionaire is the story of Jamal Malik (Patel), an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India¹s "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"

But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika (Pinto), the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show¹s questions.

Each chapter of Jamal¹s increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show¹s seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show?

When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out.

The Naked Cowboy - On Tour

Oh SNAP! Did you guys know that The Naked Cowboy (yes, the one from Times Square in NYC) was here in Jacksonville last week? Well, he was and he is currently touring the country in just his skivvies, a pair of boots, and a guitar. Check out this video by davideoboi featuring a news clip of the sighting.

Coldplay - Life in Technicolor

Coldplay has finally released an official video for their awesome song Life in Technicolor and we have posted it for you below. The video is equally as awesome as the song. Enjoy.

Engrish

YAY! Two Engrish posts in one day, it's gotta be because of Obama. JC reader Erminda sent us over this perfect example of Engrish from the Blimpie sub shop inside the Hess station on Baymeadows Road. It's a twofer...."Custmer APPRECITION weekly drawing". WOW!

Camp Consequence

Have any of you guys heard about Camp Consequence here on the first coast? It's a wilderness camp that is designed to teach unruly kids to be responsible and take control of their lives with direct participation from their families. Here's a snippet from Channel 4 News.

Anyway, Joe(y) spotted the pick-up truck that, for a mere $100 per weekend, will kidnap your children and force them into silent labor in the woods. It's pretty much guaranteed that when they get back to your home, they will be thankful for everything they have and won't cause you parents one more ounce of frustration. Kids, you better watch our for this...

EEEK!

Holy CRAP! Do you guys wanna see something that's totally scary? Jacksonville Confidential staff member Robyn was heading back to Riverside last night when out of nowhere this appeared, glaring, at her window.....

That's right, none-other-than Shirley Green (AKA the Jacksonville Sasquatch) was on the prowl last night searching for victims. Beware!

Engrish

Typically our Engrish posts involve a misspelling or general misunderstanding of every day English words. Not this time. One of our readers out at the Jacksonville International Airport sent us this receipt from the Starbucks where, get this, LONG WANG purchased a coffee beverage. Not only does Mr. Wang have a fabulous name, he's also a fantastic tipper!

Say WHAT?!?!?!

We just received a comment from a reader regarding one of our posts about Sharx Wings & Grill. The reader and a friend apparently stopped in for a bite and they were pretty happy with the meal, until......THEY WERE CHARGED 99 CENTS FOR WATER!? WTF? Here's the full story...

"We stopped in for a small snack after shopping. We were the only customers during our entire visit and sat at a clean booth. They only served a hamburger, appetizers and wings during the time we were there. I'm not sure if this is typical for evenings, or just at certain times. The service was good and the food was also tasty, however the "jumbo" wings were definitely not. However, the low rating clearly comes from something that really got my goat...a charge of $.99 each for water that appeared on our bill at the end of the meal. This is truly highway robbery at its best. We paid, left a good gratuity, and now I feel okay complaining about being taken advantage of. I did not complain about the water charge, but I'm sure they know this is not the norm. I have never been charged for tap water anywhere...let alone in Jacksonville and at a sit down restaurant. We will never return because of this dishonest behavior and I thought you should know too!"

Obviously we concur with our anonymous reader and think that sneaking a $.99 charge on customers' receipts for water is very shady. Be warned!

Morrissey - Im Throwing My Arms Around Paris

Morrissey has a brand new video out for his song "Im Throwing My Arms Around Paris" and we are, admittedly, digging it. Check it out!

The Office - The Duel

Certainly all, if not most, of our readers are ardent fans of the best show on TV right now, The Office, and of our readers who watch the show, we can assume most of you saw last weeks episode, right? The one where Dwight and Andy propose a duel to vie for Angelas love. Well, there's now an online game based on "the duel", Click Here to play.

Spotted

Absolutely no surprise here! Guess who was spotted entering Park Place Lounge in broad daylight.....

You got it! that effin Jesus Freak that was accosting people at UNF earlier this week.

Star Wars Summarized

We are really loving this 3+ minute summary of Star Wars by a girl that has never seen a full movie from the series. Very well done, effin hilarious!

Obama's Legoland Inauguration

This is pretty sweet! Legoland in California currently has a Barack Obama Inauguration display set up in anticipation of January 20ths event. Check it out!

The Snuggie

Guess what? Your favorite "blanket with sleeves", the Snuggie, is now available at your local Walgreens for the low price of $14.99 for 1. We know, you can save like $3 dollars if you order 2 from the TV at $19.95 plus $7.95 for shipping and handling (yeeesh!), but who can wait?!

These amazing blankets are perfect for reading, eating, watching TV, praying, and a whole slew of other things. See...

Staff Meeting TONIGHT!

With a mere 5 minutes left on our poll, we are going to go ahead and declare La Nopalera the winner of tonights staff meeting point of origin. We are really surprised by the huge turnout and really appreciate all of the votes and comments. Be on the lookout for a brand new poll later this week.

Here are the official results -

Turn or Burn!

Robin just sent us these pictures of this asshole at UNF preaching to the students as they walk by. Don't you think this is the perfect way to get people to "turn" to your beliefs. Nothing like a neon yellow shirt and orange poster board to really change peoples minds.

Robin said, "This guy is ridiculous! He is arguing with students. One girl coughed "false prophet" and he coughed "shut up," he has been here all week doing this. I'm the courtyard in front of the performance hall."

Now if all this hullabaloo interests you, here's the guys card from Bema Ministries (please, please, please check out the crappy website) and you can email him at PreacherJK@GMail.com (JK for just kidding?).

Good News Everybody

As of today, the state and city are, once again, permitting Kickbacks Gastropub to allow customers to eat and enjoy adult beverages on the sidewalk out front. That's GREAT news!!! Watch as Dave Massey christens the new policy.

Welcome to Florida

We've located the Baldwin, Florida version of The Jonas Brothers! Check out Northeast Florida's very own The Johnson Brothers. Here are several videos of them "pickin'" at Larry ONeals Pickin Barn. Nice confederate flag, the South shall rise again! Also, listen for Aunt Connie laughing in the background intermittently while taking drags off of her half-ash cigarette.

Lost Boy Found

Certainly you guys remember teen-heartthrob Corey Haim, right? Maybe you've seen the movies Lucas, Silver Bullet, Murphy's Romance, The Lost Boys, License to Drive, Dream a Little Dream, Watchers, and etc. or maybe you've seen season 1 or 2 of The Two Coreys on A&E. At any rate, Corey Haim has a brand new reality show coming out called Lost Boy Found and Corey himself sent us over this preview of the upcoming show.

He sure does look different from all those pics we had of him pasted to our bedroom walls in the '80's. Check out this sad re-attempt at a comeback. It's pretty obvious that this show hasn't been picked up by a network or anything yet and we will, honestly, be surprised if it does. WTF?

The Real Housewives of New York City - Season 2

Goody Goody!! The current season of The Real Housewives of Orange County isn't even halfway through and Bravo has already announced that season 2 of the New York version of the series will be kicking off on February 17th, we can't wait! They haven't inundated us with the franchise.....YET! Anyway, the new season welcomes back all of the original housewives, Ramona Singer, Luann De Lesseps (The Countess), Jill Zarin, Bethenny Frankel, and Alex Mccord, plus one....Kelly Killoren Bensimon. According to the Bravo Website Kelly is -

"known as one of New York City's major tastemakers. Mother of two daughters, Killoren Bensimon is a model, equestrian, author, editor and designer. She recently created a line of costume jewelry and a collaboration of sweaters that were sold in major department stores nationwide. The former Editor of Elle Accessories, an ambassador for Wool Corp., she is also the face of Saks Fifth Avenue's "Wear" Campaign for spring 2009. In addition to her own reality show on Plum TV called "Behind the Hedges," she is a columnist for New York Post's Page Six Magazine. She has also published three books - The Bikini Book, American Style, and In The Spirit of the Hamptons - and donates a portion of her book proceeds to the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Killoren Bensimon splits her time between New York City and East Hampton."

So, get ready for February 17th and in the interim, let's enjoy watching poor Gretchen make a total ass of herself in Orange County.

Kickbacks Sandwiches and Home Style Cooking?

Uh-oh, we definitely see some legal action in the near future for Kickbacks Sandwiches and Home Style Cooking that is going in across from the Library on Edgewood Avenue (845 Edgewood Avenue). Why? Because the name Kickbacks is already taken by our friend Steve and his gastropub at 910 King Street. We called Steve just to make sure that this establishment was not in conjunction with his and he assured us that the Murray Hill sandwich shop is in NO WAY AFFILIATED with his popular eatery. Don't be fooled by imitations.
